Behind this coffee is Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Alto Mayo, a producer organization bringing together more than 1,500 coffee-growing families across the regions of San Martín and Cajamarca in northern Peru. Founded in 2012 by a group of dedicated producers, the cooperative was established to strengthen cooperative farming, reduce dependence on intermediaries, and create greater opportunities for smallholder farmers through the production of high-quality, sustainably grown coffee. Its members cultivate exclusively Arabica coffee at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 1,900 meters above sea level, where varieties such as Caturra, Typica, Bourbon, Pache, Mundo Novo, and Catuaí develop clean, sweet, and well-balanced cup profiles. Careful farm management and traditional washed processing allow each harvest to express the unique characteristics of the region's diverse microclimates and fertile soils. Sustainability is at the heart of Alto Mayo's mission. Through partnerships with government agencies and organizations such as Solidaridad, the cooperative promotes coffee farm renovation, reforestation, soil conservation, responsible waste management, improved wet-processing infrastructure, and ongoing training in sustainable agriculture. It also collaborates with programs such as AGROIDEAS and PNIA to foster innovation, improve productivity, and strengthen the competitiveness of its members. Beyond producing exceptional coffee, Alto Mayo is committed to the long-term development of its communities through cooperative education, continuous technical assistance, and initiatives that empower producers, promote women's participation, and improve the economic and environmental well-being of coffee-growing families. This holistic approach has established the cooperative as a leading example of responsible and sustainable coffee production in Peru.
