Grown by members of the Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples 20 de Abril, this coffee originates from the municipality of Quilalí, in Nicaragua’s Nueva Segovia department. Established in 1994 by a group of local producers, the cooperative has grown steadily over the past decades and now supports a broad network of smallholder farmers across northern Nicaragua. Operating across Nueva Segovia, Jinotega, and Madriz, the cooperative brings together 5,938 members, of whom 39% are women and 61% are men. Its structure is built around a multi-service model that combines technical assistance, commercialization support, and access to financing, primarily serving micro and small-scale agricultural producers. Credit is extended through both individual and community-based lending models, helping farmers sustain their operations and invest in long-term improvements. Many of these producers cultivate coffee on small family farms under organic practices. This integrated approach, supported by continuous investment in its members, contributes to strengthening coffee production in northern Nicaragua and results in coffees that reflect both the character of the region and the collective work of an organized and resilient producer base. Coffees from this region are typically grown at high altitudes under favorable climatic conditions, contributing to the SHG (Strictly High Grown) classification. The EP (European Preparation) grading ensures careful sorting and consistency, resulting in clean, well-structured lots suited for demanding markets.
