Produced in the Wagi Valley of Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands, the Kuta lot represents the work of a dedicated network of smallholder farming families cultivating coffee in one of the country’s most remote coffee-growing regions. Grown under shade and within designated conservation areas, the coffee reflects the biodiversity and traditional farming practices that continue to shape production throughout Papua New Guinea. A mix of Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, Catimor and Arushia varieties contributes to the character of the lot, while selective harvesting and careful preparation support consistency and cup quality. The coffee is sourced and exported by New Guinea Highlands Coffee Exports (NGHCE), one of Papua New Guinea’s leading coffee exporters. Established in 1992 and integrated into the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe in 1996, NGHCE is headquartered in Goroka, in the Eastern Highlands Province, at the center of the country’s main coffee-growing region. The company plays an important role in organizing Papua New Guinea’s highly fragmented coffee supply chain, where approximately 99% of producers are smallholders managing very small family plots cultivated alongside subsistence crops. Due to limited infrastructure and the scarcity of centralized wet mills, producers commonly pulp, ferment, wash and dry their coffee at home before selling parchment through local buying points or collectors. Through grading systems, quality control and farmer extension programs, NGHCE helps transform these small individual lots into consistent export coffees while supporting productivity, sustainability and access to international specialty markets. The Kuta project also supports community and environmental initiatives through farmer profit-sharing, classroom construction, seedling distribution, composting and vermiculture programs, reinforcing long-term sustainability across the region. Carefully prepared as Papua New Guinea Grade A, this coffee is recognized for its uniform appearance, low defect count and clean, balanced cup profile.
