Homa Multipurpose Farmers’ Cooperative (HMPFC) brings together smallholder farmers from Ethiopia’s West Guji zone, in the Abaya district of the Oromia region. Formed in 2003 by an initial group of 212 producers, the cooperative has grown to include 1,996 members, supporting more than 12,000 families, with an annual production of approximately 765 metric tons. Located in one of Ethiopia’s most recognized coffee-growing areas, HMPFC operates as an integrated organization involved in the production, processing, and export of quality coffees, including traceable Yirgacheffe, Guji, and Sidamo types, supported by its own processing facilities and storage infrastructure. Guided by a long-term vision of strengthening farming communities through dignity and stability, the cooperative continues to invest in training and resources to improve members’ productivity and long-term opportunities. Through Fairtrade premiums, it has supported the development of schools, healthcare access, and local infrastructure, contributing to improved living conditions across surrounding communities. Quality is reinforced through ongoing training in farm management and post-harvest practices, while environmental efforts focus on shade-grown systems, soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity. Nurseries provide improved seedlings, supporting both productivity and resilience. Coffee cultivation in Sidamo benefits from high elevations, favorable climate, and fertile soils, contributing to profiles defined by floral aromatics, fine acidity, and a balanced body. Both natural and washed methods are used, with most production sun-dried and a smaller portion fully washed.
