Grown in the Gayo Highlands of Aceh, northern Sumatra, this coffee is produced by the members of KSU Gayo Antara, a cooperative established on September 10, 2015 in the Bener Meriah Regency. The cooperative was created to support coffee producers throughout the Gayo Highlands while contributing to the economic development of coffee-growing communities in both Bener Meriah and Central Aceh. Today, KSU Gayo Antara works with approximately 946 farmer members across several villages, including Kute Kering, Pante Karya, Kebun Baru, Toweren and Kalang. The cooperative’s production is rooted in smallholder farming systems, where coffee cultivation remains closely tied to family agriculture and rural livelihoods. KSU Gayo Antara places strong emphasis on sustainable agriculture, producer participation and community development. Its mission also includes improving farmer welfare through cooperative education, environmentally responsible agricultural practices and reinvestment initiatives within coffee-growing communities. Coffee is cultivated between 1,000 and 1,200 meters above sea level in a region characterized by fertile volcanic soils, abundant rainfall and a cool mountain climate favorable to slow cherry maturation. Farmers primarily cultivate traditional Gayo varieties such as Tim-Tim, Catimor and Ateng. Processed using the traditional wet-hulled method associated with Sumatran coffees, the cup offers a full body, low acidity and a rich texture, with notes of dark chocolate, cedar, earthy sweetness, warm spices and subtle herbal undertones.
