Coopedota is one of Costa Rica’s most respected coffee cooperatives, located in Santa María de Dota in the renowned Tarrazú growing region. Founded in 1960 by 96 local coffee producers, the cooperative today brings together more than 1,160 coffee-growing families from Dota, Tarrazú and León Cortés. Its operations are centered in Santa María de Dota, where coffee from its members is received, processed and prepared for export. Coopedota places particular emphasis on quality and traceability, working to maintain visibility from the individual farm through processing and ultimately to the cup. Its quality-control program includes certified Q Graders and evaluation of both physical and sensory characteristics. Sustainability has long been central to Coopedota’s philosophy. In 2011, it became the world’s first coffee industry organization certified Carbon Neutral. Today, its initiatives include responsible water management, regenerative agriculture, biodiversity protection, clean technologies and programs supporting its producer communities. This combination of quality, traceability and environmental stewardship has made Coopedota an important name in Costa Rican specialty coffee.
