This coffee is milled at the FNC’s Almacafé plant in Manizales. Almacafé, a partner of the FNC, was established in 1965 to support Colombian coffee producers through infrastructure, quality control, and market access. Located in Colombia’s west-central Andes, the department of Risaralda is home to a long-standing coffee tradition rooted in smallholder communities. Coffee is typically grown at elevations around 1,500 meters above sea level, where varieties such as Castillo, Colombia, and Caturra thrive under mild temperatures and well-distributed rainfall. The main harvest generally takes place from September to December. Coffee production in Risaralda remains closely tied to family farming, with many plots passed down through generations. Producers often benefit from the support of the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (FNC), which plays a key role in providing technical assistance, infrastructure, and price support mechanisms across the country. The FNC’s presence in the region has reinforced Risaralda’s capacity to produce coffee under consistent, traceable, and quality-focused conditions. Cooperative structures, shared wet mills, and regional warehouses have enabled many farming families to access international markets while maintaining independence and control over their production.
