Behind this lot are members of AMUCC -Asociación de Mujeres Caficultoras del Cauca-, a women-led producer association working throughout the department of Cauca in southwestern Colombia. Founded in 1999 and formally established a few years later, AMUCC was created to support rural women—many of them heads of household, widows, and smallholder farmers—in developing sustainable coffee production as a reliable source of income for their families. The association brings together women from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous, Afro-Colombian, and mestizo communities, who cultivate coffee on small farms across several municipalities of Cauca. Beyond coffee production, AMUCC promotes gender equity, rural entrepreneurship, and the preservation of traditional family and community values, while encouraging continuous improvements in farm management and coffee quality. AMUCC works closely with CAFICAUCA, the Cooperativa de Caficultores del Cauca, which provides commercial support, technical assistance, quality control, and market access. Founded in 1961 by a group of local coffee growers in Popayán, CAFICAUCA has grown into one of the region’s most established coffee organizations, serving thousands of producers across Cauca through an extensive network of buying stations and support services. The unique growing conditions of Cauca—characterized by volcanic soils, high elevations, and favorable climatic conditions—contribute to the production of coffees known for their balance, sweetness, and complexity. Through the combined efforts of AMUCC and CAFICAUCA, this coffee reflects both the agricultural potential of the region and the dedication of the women who cultivate it.
