In Dorabota Kebele, located in the heart of Idido near the town of Yirgacheffe, lies one of the most renowned areas of the Gedeo highlands, long celebrated for producing some of the world’s most distinctive and complex Arabica coffees. At altitudes ranging from 1,700 to 2,200 m.a.s.l., farmer Melkamu Zerga cultivates 40 hectares of coffee with the support of his wife and grown children. The family is actively involved in every stage of production: pruning, carefully hand-picking ripe cherries, and drying them on raised beds with precision and dedication. Coffees from Idido, and particularly from Dorabota, are prized for their floral clarity when washed and for their rich sweetness when naturally sun-dried, hallmarks of the finest Yirgacheffe profiles.
