Grown in the highlands of the Oromia Regional State, Ethiopian Sidamo GR2 coffee is cultivated by members of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU), an organization founded in 1999 and owned by smallholder producers. Oromia is the largest coffee-producing region in Ethiopia and is considered the historic birthplace of Arabica coffee. The area's fertile volcanic soils, combined with elevations ranging from 1,500 to over 2,200 meters above sea level, offer ideal conditions for slow bean development and nuanced flavor expression. OCFCU supports more than 400 cooperatives, encouraging organic practices and providing resources that help maintain quality while strengthening the autonomy of local communities. Many producers apply selective hand-picking and traditional methods passed down through generations, contributing to both the consistency and traceability of the coffee. Sidamo GR2 is known for its clean cup profile, typically showcasing a bright acidity, medium body, and notes of citrus and spice—qualities that reflect both the region’s terroir and the care taken by the farming communities behind it.
