In the mountainous regions of Piura, Cajamarca, and Amazonas in northern Peru, more than 7,000 small-scale producers have come together under the cooperative model of Norandino. Since its founding in 2005, the organization has worked to strengthen community-based agriculture, promote sustainable practices, and create better opportunities for coffee-growing families. On small farms surrounded by shade trees and rich biodiversity, producers cultivate Arabica varieties such as Typica, Caturra, Bourbon, Pache, Catimor, and Catuai. Harvesting is done carefully, following local traditions, and the coffee is typically washed and sun-dried to preserve its character and origin. Beyond production, Norandino provides technical training, access to infrastructure, and ongoing support to help improve coffee quality. The cooperative operates a cupping lab certified by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), allowing each lot to be evaluated using internationally recognized standards and reinforcing the connection between producers and consumers who value coffee with a clear origin and purpose.
