AKA Mandiri Coffee is an Indonesian producer/exporter working closely with smallholder farmers across Sumatra, particularly in the highland regions of Aceh and North Sumatra. These areas are known for their humid climate and mountainous terrain, conditions that have shaped both the cultivation practices and the distinctive character of the coffees produced there. Mandiri Coffee plays a key role in collecting, processing, and preparing coffees for export, ensuring consistency and quality while maintaining strong relationships with local farming communities. The company focuses on post-harvest management and careful lot preparation, allowing each coffee to reflect its regional identity. Most coffees handled by Mandiri are processed using the traditional Indonesian wet-hulling method, locally known as Giling Basah. This technique, adapted to the region’s climate, contributes to the development of a unique cup profile. Coffees from this origin typically present a full body, low to medium acidity, and a complex aromatic profile with earthy, herbal, and spicy notes, often complemented by hints of dark chocolate and wood. These characteristics make Sumatran coffees particularly distinctive and appreciated in blends as well as single-origin offerings.
